Marin-Sonoma Coordinated Transit Service Plan (MASCOTS)

The Marin-Sonoma Coordinated Transit Service Plan (MASCOTS) is a proposal to grow ridership and improve effectiveness of public transit services offered in the Highway 101 corridor. This is a collaborative project among nine transit and funding agencies, including Marin Transit, to create a more connected, frequent transit network. More information on MASCOTS can be found at www.mascotsplan.org.

Marin Transit MASCOTS Final Service Change Proposal

On December 1, 2025, Marin Transit released a final service change proposal for Marin Transit local bus service in response to the regional changes recommended through the MASCOTS effort for Golden Gate Bridge, Highway, and Transportation District (GGBHTD), and Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART).

The initial service change proposal shared with the public was revisited after public comments were received and modified to reflect the needs of riders. The final service change proposal is focused on:

  • Increasing legibility of the network along Highway 101 by removing duplicative services, optimizing frequency spacing between routes serving the same stops, and operating consistent stop patterns across all routes.
  • Preserving one seat rides in Southern Marin between Sausalito, the Highway 101 bus pads, and the San Rafael Transit Center.
  • Increasing connections to regional rail (SMART) and regional bus and ferry (GGBHTD) service including San Marin SMART, the San Rafael Transit Center, Larkspur Landing, Strawberry Village, the Marin City Hub, and Sausalito Ferry.
  • Routes 22, 29, and 71 are proposed to have routing changes. Some additional routes are proposed to have schedule changes.

The Marin Transit Board of Directors approved these service changes on December 1, 2025. Service changes will be implemented in April 2026.
