New Discounts for Using Clipper in 2025!

Marin Transit is working on exciting new changes to Clipper and Regional Transfers in 2025!

In 2025, Clipper will become a much more useful option for Marin Transit riders, offering new discounts, new payment options, and other rider benefits. Under a new Regional Discounted Transfer Pilot, riders that use Clipper will get a free local ride when transferring from any San Francisco Bay Area transit service; riders transferring to a regional service will get a discount. Riders using Clipper will be able to ride Marin Transit for free when transferring from SMART, Golden Gate Transit, and the Golden Gate Ferry. The Marin Transit Board of Directors is slated to adopt this new Regional Transfer Pilot in November 2024.

Marin Transit is not currently changing the prices we charge to ride the bus and cash will continue to be an option for fare payment. For more information on Marin Transit fares, click here

Key changes include:

  • Regional Discounted Transfers: All riders who use Clipper will get a free local ride when transferring from any San Francisco Bay Area transit service and a discount when transferring to a regional service. Riders transferring to Marin Transit will always get a free ride.
  • One tap: No need to tap on/tap off; no risk of overpayment
  • New pass products: All of Marin Transit’s pass products will be available on Clipper, including the monthly pass. Riders can “pay as they go” to get a monthly pass – once a rider has paid $40 worth of fares in one month, your fares will be capped and you will ride free the rest of the month ($20 for seniors and people with disabilities).
  • Tap-to-Pay: Riders can ‘tap to pay’ with a credit or debit card or Smartphone mobile wallet (e.g. Google Pay or Apple Pay)
  • Value Immediately Available: Value added to a Clipper card remotely will be immediately available on the card for payment.
  • Note: Clipper has four discounted fare options that will continue to be available under Clipper 2.0: Youth, Senior, RTC (renamed Clipper Access), and Clipper START
