Mt. Tamalpais State Park |

Mount Tamalpais is just north of San Francisco's Golden Gate. It has redwood groves and oak woodlands with a spectacular view from the 2,571-foot peak. Hikers can enjoy more than 50 miles of hiking trails in the park that connect to a 200 mile trail system over land managed by the Marin Municipal Water District and the Golden Gate Recreation Area. On a clear day, visitors can see the Farallon Islands 25 miles out to sea. Marin County hills, San Francisco and the bay, cities in the East Bay, Mount Diablo, and even the Sierra Nevada's snow-covered mountains may be visible from park viewpoints. Camping and day use are available at Mt. Tamalpais. |

Stinson Beach is a quiet beach community that offers year round beach recreation. Stinson's white sand and oceanfront make it one of the best swimming and surfing beaches in northern California. Additional activities including picnicking, hiking, and volleyball. The adjacent town offers several restaurants, a small grocery store, and a handful of shops. |

Samuel P. Taylor State Park |

Samuel P. Taylor's landscape ranges from shady redwood groves to oak-studded grasslands to the rolling hills of Mt. Barnabe. The park was a popular recreation destination along the North Pacific Railroad during the late 1870s and the 1880s. "Camp Taylor" was one of California's first recreational camping sites and was the site of the first paper mill on the west coast. The park has endangered Coho salmon which migrate up Lagunitas Creek to spawn in the winter. It is a peaceful place for a hike, picnic, or a family camping trip. Camping and day use are available. |

Muir Woods National Monument |

Muir Woods National Monument protects one of the only stands of old-growth Coast Redwoods left in the Bay Area. President Theodore Roosevelt declared it a national monument in 1908 and it was subsequently named after the influential naturalist John Muir. |

Lagoon Park is a large community park located on the Marin County Civic Center campus and surrounds a man-made lagoon. It provides expansive views of the landmark Civic Center buildings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The park is a popular San Rafael destination for walking, picnicking, model boating, wildlife viewing, and relaxing. The playground adjacent to the lagoon was renovated in 2008 and its innovative and exciting play features make it a favorite spot for kids and adults alike. |

Santa Venetia is full of outdoor treasures. Visit a levee trail that travels through beautiful marshland. Take the kids out to enjoy several small parks including Candy’s Park, which recently received new playground equipment. Santa Venetia is also home to Santa Margarita Island, a tiny island with a short loop trail. |

Named after the Marin County Second District Board of Supervisor Harold C. Brown Jr., this large community park reopened on February 14, 2011 following extensive renovations. Visitors will find a large turf area to play on and relax, a remodeled bathroom, several new benches and picnic tables scattered throughout, an area for petanque, a health and wellness grove landscaped with plants that have healing and medicinal attributes, a redesigned amphitheater that provides the ideal location for children’s outdoor educational classes and community theatrical presentations, a new overlook that offers stunning views of Corte Madera Creek and Creekside Marsh as well as arguably the most outstanding view of Mt. Tamalpais in the entire county. |

Connect up with the Mill Valley/Sausalito paved pathway by foot or by bike and explore this 106 acre preserve that incorporates a tidal wetland that is a small reminder of the vast salt marshes that once surrounded San Francisco Bay. This quiet inlet at the north end of Richardson Bay, surrounded by cordgrass and pickleweed, is home for several endangered species. While these species may not be evident to every visitor, the number of shorebirds and waterfowl that rest and feed here is always an attraction. |

Once planned for an upscale yacht harbor, this Marin County Open Space District Preserve is now a Pacific Flyway stopping point for millions of shorebirds and other waterfowl that visit the mudflats and quiet waters each year. The lagoon is also home to a thriving population of harbor seals that can always be seen at low tide when they haul out to rest and replenish their depleted oxygen supply. |

This public walking/biking trail is located along an impressive, scenic, restored wetland built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and its state partner the Coastal Conservancy as part of the conversion of 650 acres of the former military airfield. The new segment of trail sits along the edge of the Hamilton Wetlands Restoration Project adjacent to oak woodland, burgeoning habitat, and provides sweeping views. A smartphone audio tour, describing the history and natural environment at various points along the trail may be enjoyed any time of day by downloading the Canogle app. Interpretive signs are also available on site. A playground is located adjacent to the trail at the southern end of Hangar Avenue for families with young children planning a visit. |
