How To Ride

Planning Your Trip

Plan your trip using our Trip Planner or take a look at our Interactive System Map to find routes and stops.

For additional trip planning assistance, call 511 (say "Marin Transit", then "Operator"). You can also talk to someone in person at the Customer Service Center at the San Rafael Transit Center, located at 850 Tamalpais Ave in San Rafael.

How to Read Marin Transit Schedules

Schedules show departure times for only the major stops (timepoints) along the route. There may be other stops in between the stops listed on the schedule. Online schedules show estimated departure times for these intermediate stops by selecting on the “All Stops” button above the timetable.

  • Select the appropriate schedule based on the direction of travel and the day of the week you are traveling. Schedules differ on weekdays and weekends. Buses operate Sunday schedules on certain major holidays. See our Holiday Schedule.
  • If you are having troubles finding the closest stop to your origin or destination, use our online trip planning tool or the Interactive System Map.
  • A Stop ID number is listed under each stop name on the schedule and is shown on the bus stop sign at the pickup location. You can use this number to get real-time bus arrival information online or by calling 415-993-5300.

At the Bus Stop

All bus stops are marked with a sign that lists the routes serving that location and the bus stop ID. Verify that you are at the right location by checking the stop ID or the route and destination listed on the sign. This stop ID can be used to get real-time information for routes serving that stop online or by calling 415-993-5300

Be sure to arrive at the stop at least five minutes before the scheduled departure time. As the bus approaches, signal to the driver that you wish to board.

On the Bus

Pay your fare when you board the bus. If you need to transfer, be sure to advise the driver of your final destination. Get more information on how to pay your fare.

Getting Off the Bus

When the bus gets close to your stop, pull the cord near the window or push the signal button. If using Clipper, be sure to tag off as you exit the bus so the correct fare is deducted.
